The 4th grade student growth talk presentation will take place in small groups divided by gender at Howard on April 12th at 2:00. The material will be presented by the School Nurses. This information is the first stepping stone in the many changes that will occur with your son or daughter in the next several years. If your schedule permits, you are welcome to attend the presentation with your student. It is hoped that this presentation will help facilitate further discussion with your son or daughter. If you would prefer your student not attend this presentation, please notify the teacher and an alternative activity will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact our School Nurse at [email protected]. The video emphasizes differences in physical and emotional maturation as well as personal hygiene. The DVD is available for parent preview if so desired. It can be checked out for ONE NIGHT by picking it up and dropping it off at your school office. Please call your School Nurse to schedule a preview date. New Year = New Email addresses for Howard-Suamico School District Staff
Starting December 26, 2018 all HSSD email addresses will end a new extension: @hssdschools.org and our website address will also become www.hssdschools.org. During the transition, former email addresses (ending in @hssd.k12.wi.us) will work for a limited time to receive email. We will be testing the new addresses in early January to double check that emails aren’t caught up in recipients’ spam filters. Stay tuned for updates after the holidays. |

On March 13, your child attended Music Demo Days at Lineville Intermediate School where they had the opportunity to view students performing in Band, Orchestra and Choir to help them to make their music choice for 5th grade.
We encourage you to discuss with your child their experience to see which music class they would prefer. The link below has information on each music choice as well as all the electives available for 5th grade. Once you have decided, please follow the instructions on how to sign in to PowerSchool to select your child's electives. This link can also be found on our Lineville Webpage blog. For scheduling purposes and planning, we ask that you have your choice made by the deadline of Sunday, March 24th, 2019. School District band and orchestra teachers are seeking used band and orchestra instrument donations. Donated instruments in good playing condition are maintained by the Giving Tree and offered to students whose families cannot afford instrument rental costs. If you have an unused band instrument at home, please consider donating it to the district music department. Donations can be dropped off in the Lineville Intermediate School office. Please contact Mr. Zipperer (band; [email protected] ) or Mr. Wucherer (orchestra; [email protected] ) with any questions. |
From your School Board
[email protected] From your School Board “Education then, beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions of men, the balance-wheel of the social machinery…” Horace Mann Our students continue to perform academically at a high level. Whether measured against our local districts, the state of Wisconsin or other countries, our students distinguish themselves on a regular basis. One of the keys to this level of success is the support the district receives from our community. When complemented by ongoing, transparent dialogue, the Howard and Suamico communities have demonstrated consistent, heart-felt support for our students, educators and leadership. While there are many other positives in our district, public education is not without serious ongoing, as well as newer challenges. Perhaps the most long-standing hurdle continues to be the state funding formula that creates million dollar inequities amongst similar districts only miles apart. HSSD in partnership with local legislators have made meaningful progress in solving this issue, but much work remains. From anxiety to depression, a more recent and emerging nationwide struggle is the increased prevalence of mental health challenges amongst students. As a parent and board member I’m proud of the intensive, compassionate approach HSSD demonstrates every day as they tackle this unique challenge head-on. Even amongst the constant balance of success and struggle, I share Horace Mann’s hope, via public education, for future generations. For more information about the Howard-Suamico School District, please visit our website at www.hssdschools.org or for additional information regarding this article, contact school board member, Teresa Ford at tereford@hssdschools.org. March 17, 1-4 pm - Youth Softball Clinic sponsored by Bay Port Softball for Girls K-8, click here for more information.
For the last six years, Bay View Student Council has made this one of their causes by sponsoring a 2.5 fun run/walk to help raise money for the Donate Life Wisconsin organization, which is very near and dear to our hearts. Our two Student Council advisors have both been affected by organ transplantation. Mrs. Burant’s son, Ethan, had a life-saving liver transplant in 2010 and Ms. Swinford’s brother, who passed away at the early age of 39, was a donor. This April 13th is the 7th annual NEW Donate Life Walk and Bay View Student Council would like it to be the biggest and the best so far! The goal is to raise $20,000 and to have over 500 people attend our walk! To do this, Bay View Student Council is asking for your help. Here are some ways that you might consider helping:
1. Register to walk on April 13th. Here is the link to the website where you can sign up: http://newdonatelifewalk.weebly.com/ 2. Like us on Facebook and share the information about the walk: https://www.facebook.com/newdonatelifewalk/ 3. Sponsor a silent auction item. 4. Plan pizza for lunch or dinner on Tuesday, 4/30! Heartland Pizza in Ashwaubenon is supporting our efforts by donating a percentage of their total proceeds on this day to Donate Life! All you have to do is order some sandwiches or pizza and mention our walk, and your ticket will be added to the proceeds they count towards us! Coupons for free breadsticks at Heartland will be given out at the walk on April 13th! FROM THE NURSE: As Influenza activity continues to rise in Wisconsin, it is a good time to review the signs and symptoms of Influenza. As a reminder if your child has a fever, they should remain home until they are fever free without over the counter medication for 24 hours. Good hand washing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs and stay healthy. Click HERE for additional information. Also, click this link for additional information about measles. How is it spread? What are the signs and symptoms? How can measles be pevented? (https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/publications/p4/p42174.pdf) |
