Spring 2019 conferences date change: The first night of spring conference will be Monday, February 18. This change will resolve a conflict with the spring primary election scheduled for Tuesday, February 19. The second night of spring conferences will remain as scheduled, Thursday, February 21.
Printed calendar error: Tuesday, January 22 is a full day with a regular schedule. Both a.m. and p.m. 4K classes will be held. There is an error in the printed calendar mailed to families and staff last summer that incorrectly indicated Jan. 22 was a K-12 half-day.

Howard Elementary is hiring!
Looking for a little extra spending cash working part-time hours? Howard is looking for a Lunchroom/Playground Supervisor. The position is daily during school days, 11 am-1:30 pm. For more information or to apply, please click this link which will direct you to WECAN: https://wecan.education.wisc.edu/#/Employer/3681/Vacancies/2 (Please note: you must create an account in WECAN to complete the application.) New Year = New Email addresses for Howard-Suamico School District Staff
Starting December 26, 2018 all HSSD email addresses will end a new extension: @hssdschools.org and our website address will also become www.hssdschools.org. During the transition, former email addresses (ending in @hssd.k12.wi.us) will work for a limited time to receive email. We will be testing the new addresses in early January to double check that emails aren’t caught up in recipients’ spam filters. Stay tuned for updates after the holidays. DASH FOR CASH!
Mrs. Voight from fourth grade will be representing Howard again this year in the annual Dash for Cash event promoted by the Gamblers. She will be dashing on Saturday, January, 19th at the end of the first period. Adult tickets are $14. Youth tickets are $9. $3 from each ticket sale is donated back to Howard Elementary. It’s an inexpensive dinner night as well. Hot dogs and sodas for only $2 each. Flyers were sent home last week in the family folder and there are extra copies of the flyers in the office if you’re interested in purchasing tickets. From the Music Teacher: Last spring, I won a grant from the Doctors in Recital for a classroom set of ukuleles that could travel throughout the elementary schools in our district, and possible a set to stay at Howard for an extra-curricular ukulele club. Doctors in Recital are a group of doctors, who are also musicians, that hold a concert every January to raise money for organizations. This year, they are supporting Encompass Early Education, SOL: Baile Folklorico de Nicolet, UWGB Concert Series, and the HSSD Ukulele Club (that's us!).
The performance is Saturday, January 19th at the Weidner Center, and tickets are $20 each. It is a great concert. Please consider attending to help support our students! Tickets are sold at the Suamico Elementary School office as well as Festival Foods, and other places. See http://www.DoctorsInRecital.org for more information. |
From your School Board
[email protected] New Year, A Closer look into the HSSD School Board As 2018 comes to a close, the Howard-Suamico School Board wants to thank you for your continued trust and support. As we prepare to bring in a new year, we want to make sure you are clear on the School Board’s role, our mission and ensure you have the visibility, aka transparency, you deserve. School Board Role The Board of Education acts as a whole, not as seven individuals, to ensure the success of every child through clear, concise direction to the superintendent as well as rigorous monitoring to ensure accountability. The board charges the superintendent to focus every staff member and all resources toward a single goal - student achievement. The superintendent receives direction from the board and authorizes the staff to implement practices, programs and activities that will provide the best education possible. This approach allows the Board to focus its time and energy on facilitating a successful school district. Board Mission The mission of the Howard-Suamico School District Board of Education is to enact policies and allocate resources to develop all students' full academic potential and to promote their social and emotional growth. For more information about the School District and School Board, visit www.hssd.k12.wi.us. For additional information regarding this article, contact school board member Maria Lara at [email protected]. We wish you a Happy New Year! Please update your volunteer page

The calendar link is found at http://fs-hssd.rschooltoday.com/calendar/index/publicview/ Events at various district facilities can be located by using the calendar. If you are looking to request the use of one of the district’s facilities, it’s easy! Just click on the Request Facilities button from the calendar page and sign up. It’s that simple. If you have questions, contact the school office at 662-9700. Requests for facility usage are subject to approval based on administrative policy 7510. NUTRITION DETAIL OF SCHOOL MEALS: Meal Viewer, our online menu service does all the math for you! You can toggle between breakfast and lunch and select specific school site along top right hand side of page. Simply click on “Let’s Add It Up” alongside monthly menu. Please see the example to the left.
BREAKFAST MEALS: Overnight peach oatmeal, sunflower seeds, homemade whole grain muffin squares and roasted garbanzo beans are just some of the super healthy and trendy breakfast options you will see on your child's breakfast menu! We value a great start for your child's day and hope to see them in the cafeteria soon! ATTENTION 4TH GRADE PARENTS!
Planning Ahead: Lineville Intermediate School Class Choices In March fourth graders and their parents will learn about the music class options at Lineville: band, chorus, and orchestra. A music class selection for fifth grade must be made by the end of March. In addition, course descriptions will be provided for several other fifth grade classes, and parents will be able to indicate their preferences. Course descriptions and registration information will be available on March 13th, and selections must be made and the registration completed within two weeks. Parents who desire more information at this time are invited to visit the music class websites, which are linked to the Lineville home page: http://linevillehssd.weebly.com |
