Parents/Guardians:
This is to inform you that if your student has a prescription OR an over the counter medication to be picked up in the front office, you can pick them up at any time now, our office hours are 7:30-4:00pm. A parent/guardian MUST pick up the medications, they cannot be sent home with the student nor can they be saved for the next school year. You will have until June 7th to pick up the medication at school. If they are not picked up by June 7th they will be disposed of properly. If your student will be attending summer school at BayPort H.S. a parent/guardian must physically bring that medication to BayPort on the first day of summer school where it can be given to the district nurse. If your student is attending Husky Academy at Howard Elementary, the medication can remain at Howard and be picked up when the Husky Academy is complete. The forms that you completed during the school year will be sufficient and transfer to BayPort and Husky Academy summer school. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter, Howard Elementary Office Staff A huge shout out and Special Thanks to Shotgun and Charli from WNCY100 for their special visit today. The kids loved the books you read and your expression was fun and engaging! It was truly to a great start to our week! |
All library materials are due by the last day of school. Students whose books are not returned will be sent a letter indicating replacement costs. Books can be returned or replacement costs paid through the school office during the summer. Thank you!
Student Council will be sponsoring an ABC Countdown for the last 26 days of school. Each of the last 26 days of school will be represented by a letter of the alphabet and a corresponding activity. Some days will require participation from home. Others will merely require attendance. The bolded dates are the ones that require home participation. We hope you enjoy this celebration of a great school year. Click HERE to see the calendar of the last 26 days of school activities.

CORRECTION TO THE GETTING READY FOR LINEVILLE SUMMER SCHOOL CLASS:
Getting Ready For Lineville Intermediate School – (Grade 5 and new Intermediate school students) 8:30-12 noon each session. Please sign up for only 1 session. August 20th OR August 21st. Where will my locker be located? How do I work a combination lock? What classes will I be taking? Will I be able to find my classes without getting lost? Activities will include tours of the intermediate school, practicing locker combinations, learning about the intermediate school structure and schedule. Students will be able to meet most of the 5th grade staff so there is a familiar face and smile on the first day of school. At 11 o’clock, adults will join students for a Passport experience giving the students more time to practice getting around and show off what they have learned! This time will also be an alternative “Open House” time allowing for parent(s) to meet teachers and everyone to set up their lockers! Using this time eliminates the need to come during the hectic district Open House night. Students will get a head start and feel much more comfortable transitioning to the Intermediate School by taking this class. (Students should enroll in only 1 session). |
From your School Board
[email protected] STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE BOARD Please enjoy this article from outgoing Student Rep to the Board – Abbi Bender! In a culture constantly motivated by change and innovation, the Howard-Suamico School District and Board of Education prove time and time again that they are unafraid of the fast-paced progress headed for the education system. With the help of a hardworking administrative team, the passionate and dedicated school board members take on big undertakings in adapting our district to better fit the needs of the 21st Century in stride. For thirteen years, the Howard Suamico Board of Education has included the vital position of a non-voting student representative at each biweekly board meeting to be a direct link from the student body to board members. During the 2018/19 school year, I, Abbi Bender, was honored with the opportunity to fill this position. My term comes to an end on May 20, 2019 and I am incredibly proud to have been a part of such an innovative and passionate board that strives to better the education of all students, and ultimately improve the community as a whole. The end of my term on the school board coincides with a lot of ends in my life. In a couple of short weeks, I will become a graduate from the Howard Suamico School District and end my time as a high school student. To me, it is easy to reflect on the major changes I have seen throughout my education; I have vivid memories of giving presentations on overhead projectors in kindergarten, the implementation of the first SMART Boards in my second grade class, and where classroom technologies are now, giving my peers and I the opportunity to create and learn from dynamic and interactive presentations on two screens and personal devices. It is harder, however, to recognize some of the smaller changes developing overtime through dedicated conversations and meticulous planning. In November, the Board, as well as district administrators, participated in a book study on Ted Dintersmith’s What Schools Could Be. This study prompted challenging conversations on the innovation needed to improve public education and the direction of the district. By listening to and participating in this dialogue, I was able to observe the dedication and fearlessness the Howard-Suamico School District has when it comes to bringing positive change to their schools and community. I left those board meetings exhilarated by the discussions and unable to wait to share all the exciting topics (often prompting me to call my mom on my way home because a seven minute drive was too long of a wait). Following these energizing meetings, I fulfilled my responsibility as the student representative by communicating with my peers about the discussions that took place at the board table. Despite technological advancements, classroom education has, for the most part, remained stagnant throughout the lifetimes of my peers and myself. While reporting out on ideas about “The Profile of a Graduate” and “Individualized Learning,” my peers became excited about the changes that will take place in their education throughout the coming years. To my peers, and to myself, nothing is more energizing than knowing that positive change is coming, and the efforts are being led by a team of dedicated board members and district administrators who are clear about their intentions to influence our educational path in a way that will better prepare us for our ever-changing futures.
