Howard Elementary Recognized as one of the Nations Healthiest Schools! This month Howard Elementary Received a Game On! Grant from the Action for Healthy Kids Organization. Howard Elementary has been recognized in a small group of schools nationwide as valuing healthy lifestyles and active learning for students. Students will continue to learn about how nutrition helps fuel their body and how fitness can be fun. Watch for more details coming soon!
The equation is pretty simple: Good food + activity bodies = kids equipped for success! That’s right, kids who eat nutritious foods and stay active not only maintain a healthy weight, but they are also better prepared to learn and perform better in school. Learn more about how you can support your children at home and their learning in school. Our school is proud to be a part of the movement to make school a healthier place for students. Check out more about the Learning Connection.

From the Nurse:
Hello! My name is Janelle Martell the new school nurse. My job at the school is to help with any medical needs that any student should require. Some examples of health needs that a student might have are allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures and so on. My job is to formulate a health plan that tailors to your child. An individualized health plan, or IHP, is to make sure the medical requirements needed for your child are met throughout the school day. This will be a time that you and I can talk about what medical needs the student may have and we will then formulate a plan for the school day. This plan will go out to all staff members who work with your child. At any time, you can tell me that a health plan is no longer needed. A health plan is to make sure that every student is getting the proper care at school. I look forward to talking with you if you would like to get a plan started!
Thank you!

This year HPSA is very excited to once again be hosing a Spaghetti Dinner before the annual Fall into Reading night! The event takes place Oct. 4, with dinner from 5 - 5:45 pm, followed by the fun filled show and special events put on by the school. We are still looking for a few more volunteers to help make the dinner a fun event for all our Howard Elementary School families to kick off the fall season! If you think you may be interested in helping out for a portion of the event, please shoot us a note at [email protected] and we'll add you to the sign up list. The time slots are kept reasonable, so you can help out and still enjoy the event with your family!
If you can't help with this one, but are interested in being on the email distribution list for future events, please drop us a note anyway! We're always looking for volunteers for other upcoming events provided by HPSA, such as popcorn Fridays, fall fundraisers, the Scholastic Book Fairs, literacy night and the spring fundraiser - new ideas are always welcome, too!
